Abstract
The proliferation of resources and the massive influx of information have led libraries to adopt modern technologies to improve and expedite their services to patrons. One such technology is library software, which is employed to assist librarians in their duties. However, the use of these technologies sometimes introduces challenges for users, potentially affecting the efficiency of librarians and the user experience negatively. This research investigates and identifies the core issues and challenges faced by librarians at Shahid Beheshti University when working with the Azarsa library software. Considering that librarians interact directly with this software and that students, as potential users, are directly affected by any issues in its use, this study aims to explore the primary reasons behind these challenges from the librarians' perspective.
This research is applied in objective, qualitative-survey in methodology, with a library-based approach. Data were collected through in-person visits to the faculty and central libraries of Shahid Beheshti University, interviews with 9 librarians employed at the university, and the collection of librarians' letters of complaint about the Azarsa software from spring 2021 to December 2022.
Through interviews and analyses, 33 issues were identified by librarians while working with the Azarsa software. Most of these issues relate to the system of display and data entry.
Consequently, key indicators for evaluating library software include data entry methods, completeness of bibliographic information, features and structure of fields, use of auxiliary databases, and features of the data entry page. More precise data entry into library management software significantly impacts the efficiency and performance of libraries.
