Abstract

This study evaluates the information architecture of the Noormags scientific database from the perspective of information science and epistemology experts. The aim of the research is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the information architecture in various sections of this database, including the global, general, and assisted navigation systems, as well as the search system, which includes the search interface, search space, and advanced search. The statistical population of the study consisted of 81 faculty members from the Department of Information Science and Knowledge Studies in public universities in Iran, of whom 67 were randomly selected using Cochran's formula. Data were collected through a Likert scale-based questionnaire evaluating various aspects of information architecture, including navigation and search systems, and were analyzed using SPSS software for statistical analysis and Excel for supplementary calculations. The results showed that the advanced navigation and search systems in Noormags performed well and had a positive and significant impact on information access. In particular, the advanced search system and general navigation improved the user experience by providing accurate and organized results. However, the assisted navigation system and the query section of the search system need revision and improvement. This research can offer solutions for optimizing the structure and access to data in similar scientific databases.
