Educational Skills of Librarians Working in Isfahan Academic Libraries

Abstract

This study aims at determining the amount of librarians’ Instructional skills working in Isfahan university and Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in 2014. This is an applied research conducted by a survey method. This study is an applied research accomplished by survey method. The population includes 143 librarians working in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Isfahan University Libraries. Based on the Cochran sample size formula, 104 librarians were selected through stratified random sampling.  The data collection tools are questioner and researcher-made test evaluated by education experts and library and information science professionals. Also, the confirmation and reliability of the tools  were estimated 0.86 and 0.82 respectively by Cronbach's alpha. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and analytical statistics. The findings showed that, librarians’ skills in providing an emotional environment in class, management, educational Assessment are more that the average however their skills in teaching methods are less than the average. Overall, there is not meaningful relationship between sex, field of study, job experience and librarians’ educational skills. although the educational skills are very necessary for librarians working in academic libraries,   educational librarians’ are average or in a few dimensions are less than average. Therefore,   it is necessary to review the syllabus at Library and Information Science program and plan adequate in-service training courses for librarians working in academic libraries.
