Purpose: The present study aims to identify and compare the features and capabilities of Content Management Systems’ peer judgment among Iranian and international journals in order to identify the essential features.
Methodology: A survey was used and data were collected through a review of systems (web-based survey), observation, library studies and a researcher-made checklist. The population consisted of national and international journal database management systems and the selected sample included three domestic journals database management system (Yekta Web Shargh, Anformatic systems, Pajooheshgaran-e-Salamat) and three foreign systems (OJS, EM, EES). Data analysis was performed in two phases (analytical and descriptive).
Findings: In the first part, the capabilities and features of the selected samples’ peer judgment mechanism were identified and presented (in tables). In the second part, based on the findings from the first phase, the aforementioned checklist was developed. Then, the presence of the features and facilities in the selected samples’ systems were analyzed. In the third stage of research, by comparing these systems, it was observed that the highest score from available resources was related to international periodical content management systems (OJS, EM, EES). Moreover, Yekta Web Afzar Shargh Company system seemed to have little differences with those of international systems.
Conclusion: The findings showed that the features in the journal database management systems paves the way to remove the additional costs of traditional methods and help reduce the time between the paper submission and publication. Using these systems seem to create interactive relationships between different users
