Abstract

 
Purpose: Current research evaluation of students’ attitudes and behaviors towards academic plagiarism.
Methodology: The descriptive- Correlation method is used in this research and questionnaire is used for data collection. Statistical population consists of all master students from Payame Noor University of Mashhad. 332 students are randomly chosen to form a data sample.
Findings: Findings show that there is a correlation between students’ attitudes and academic plagiarism. However, there is not any relationship between academic plagiarism and gender within the statistical population.
Conclusion: according to the current research plagiarism is now frequent in the academic environment. Lack of knowledge of academic formal writing principals might be one of the reasons of plagiarism so university students need to be taught to avoid plagiarism. Another way to prevent academic plagiarism is to warn students about the consequences of plagiarism. This means that university student must know that plagiarism will not be tolerated by the university.
