Abstract
Introduction: The excessive use of social networks can cause serious social harm. Study is one of the ways to fill leisure time. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of the library in reducing social pathology caused by the effects of social networks on female users of the libraries of Qom University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: The research method was descriptive-analytic and data gathering tool was Yang's Internet addiction standard questionnaire.The statistical population included 9564 female users of Qom University of Medical Sciences libraries in 2017.According to Morgan's table, 369 people were selected as sample. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and SPSS-20 software.
Results: The results of this study showed that the negative Pearson correlation coefficient between the role of libraries in reducing social damages caused by social networks in moderating variables(-346/), family stress(-297/, Crisis of identity(-248/), dimming religious-social values(-0.072), and vulnerable friendships(-0.442). Also, the results of regression test showed that the role of libraries in reducing modality, family stress and identity crisis of all three with significant level(Sig = 0/000) is significant.
Conclusion: Results show that use of libraries, study and spending time in this environment, play a significant role in reducing fashionism, identity crisis, family tension, diminishing socio-religious values and vulnerable friendships. As a result, it is necessary for the authorities to take the necessary measures to create a culture and encourage users to use the library instead of joining social networks
