Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to investigate the suitability of books published in Iran before the 15th century, in different subject areas, and to compare them with Dewey's decimal classification.
Research method: For this purpose, more than five million books that were printed in our country at the end of 1400 and published in the book search system of the National Library of Iran were retrieved and a Dewey classification number was given to each of them. Then, it was divided based on Dewey's categories and subcategories, and the frequency and percentage of sources of each topic were analyzed.
Results: Most books in the country are published in the field of Persian literature, followed by practical sciences, social sciences, philosophy and psychology, history and geography, religion, natural sciences, language, and finally books on art and Entertainment is located.
In the field of the general classification of sciences, it should be said that the books on the subject of humanities with more than 71% are in the first place, followed by practical sciences with about 15%; Natural sciences with 8% and art and entertainment with 6%.
Conclusion: In the subjects and fields of natural sciences and practical sciences, we have very few books published, so special attention should be paid to the authoring, translation and publication of these fields in the country's cultural macro-planning.
