Abstract

Purpose: Today, in the era of communication, there are countless tools for information to accelerate the transfer of concepts and information. The usage of logotypes and pictograms in the library is one of the information methods that always facilitates access to sources. The purpose of this research is to identify the role of logotypes and pictograms to guide library users and present a suggestive offer.
Methodology: This research was applied in terms of purpose and method; it was done by survey-analytical method. Data gathering tool - the questionnaire- included 42 questions, some were Likert scale and some open-ended designed. The statistical society consisted of 60 persons. The questionnaire was designed on Google Doc and was available electronically for Respondents. Studies represent those Logotypes and pictograms in the library of Shahid Beheshti University were limited and in simple fonts, printed on paper.
Findings: Furthermore, logotypes and pictograms, other criteria like color, environmental graphic, the architecture of library and environmental factors such as type of shelving, layout of study tables and chairs, lighting are principal.According to the observed data, we can say the above mentioned has not been seriously applied in the library. Librarians rarely know about logotypes and pictograms as tool guide.
Conclusion: Therefore, by planning in order to resolve the lack of sufficient information and knowledge in this base we can create an attractive situation for library users and librarians by creating suitable conditions for designing of environmental graphics, especially the design of types of symbols in libraries. This requires a co-operation between librarians and graphic designers.
