Abstract
Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between service qualities of academic libraries of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences and social capital of the university’s students in the academic year 2014.
Methodology: This research is correlation research. The data were collected using two questionnaires: Lib-Qual and Bollen’s social capital questionnaire. These questionnaires distributed among a sample of 360 students. Data analyzed using the regression and correlation with SPSS software.
Findings: Results showed that there is a significant relationship between three aspects of library services with the three dimensions of social capital. In a narrower investigation results showed that the “control of library service quality information” dimension is related to the“structural” dimension of social capital. The impact of “library services” dimension is related to the “cognitive” dimension of social capital and the “library as the place” dimension have a strong relationship with the “structural” dimension of social capital as well. The “library as a place” dimension had the highest relationship with all dimensions of the social capital. Also, multiple regression analysis showed that quality of library services could predict the social capital of the university students
Conclusion: Generally, one can conclude that the quality of academic library services can affect the three dimensions of the student’s social capital. Academic libraries can improve the student’s social capital by providing high-quality services
