Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explain how to use the h-index in the evaluation of research and researcher. Methodology: A qualitative research is conducted in which the statistical population includes the faculty members of universities and Iranian researcher in ISI and ISC. The sample consist of twenty faculty members in the University of Isfahan, Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan University of Medical Science, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Health Services, Kharazmi University, Shahed University, Yasouj University and Razi University. In this study, purposive sampling is used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed based on the Grounded Theory. Findings: Whit using of coding techniques in the Grounded Theory, seven categories are extracted and the H-index category is considered as the main issue. Other categories in this study are: strengths and weaknesses of the H-index, research ranking and promotion of researchers and universities, advocates and opponents of the H-index, and strategies to improve the H-index. Conclusion: The results show that due to the numerous weaknesses of the H-index and considering that the h-index only reflects the scientific aspects of a person's activity (i.e. scientific outputs in the form of papers), therefore ranking and promotion of individuals, universities and etc. based on the H-index without having a complete knowledge about its negative consequences is not recommended

Purpose: This paper aims at analyzing and mapping the patents related to the area of purification and recovery of hydrocarbon compounds in the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) system. Methodology: The current research is of descriptive-analytical type and has dealt with using the co-citation patents analysis and the networking techniques. The data is extracted from class 585 and the subclasses 800 up to 868 in the field of purification and recovery of hydrocarbon compounds in the system USPTO system. Analyzingsis and mapping of data were done using Ucinet, Netdraw and Ravar Pre Map software. Findings: During different years, the number of patents in the field of purification and recovery of hydrocarbon compounds has fluctuated a lotshowed an increasing trend. The Most productions occurred is in 2013 and the lowest is in 1971. The main Network from 2837 patents has composed of 325 pieces. BROUGHTON_2985589 was the patent with the highest number of centrality degree (510). Patents, with registration number 3684665, 3043891 and 3401112 ranked first, second and third respectively in based on betweenness centrality. Conclousion: Co-citation patents analysis can be displayed the important patent and the relationship between them. This analysis can be used in the macro policies, or to identify gaps and fill in the gap

Purpose: Using a quantitative method named "Referenced Publication Year Spectroscopy" (RPYS), this research tries to determine the historical roots of semantic web research. RPYS pave the way for determining the significant years and works in semantic web. Methodology: The initial data of this study, which uses a scientometric method, have been extracted from the Web of Science. Using RPYS software, the revised data were analyzed and visualized in Excel. Findings: The distribution of cited references in information behavior revealed 6 peaks within 20th century, respectively in 1962, 1965, 1975, 1979, 1983, and 1995. Conclousion: Based on the study findings, it seems that semantic Web research has been shaped intellectually by fields such as Linguistics, Knowledge Representation, and Artificial Intelligence

Purpose: The current study aims at visualizing the co-authorship network of the authors of the articles published in Farsi in the fields of sports medicine, growth and motor learning, sports biosciences and sport management at the University of Tehran, as well as identifying the most influential authors, the co-authorship pattern, and network integrity. Metodology: The study is scientometric and uses a social network analysis approach as well as social network analysis indicators such as cooperation level, cooperation index, node size, betweenness centrality, eigenvector centrality, and specific vector centrality, clustering coefficient and the like. NodeXL software is used for data analysis. Articles published between March 21, 2011 and March 21, 2016 (5-year period) are considered here. 581 papers were published by 1890 authors during the 5-year period. Findins: Among 581 Papers, 562 papers were co-authored, according to the analysis. Moreover, 2816 bidirectional relations were observed among all the authors in the journals under study. Among the investigated journals, the highest cooperation index and cooperation level go to Journal of Sport Biosciences and Journal of Sport Medicine, respectively. Conclusion: Among the authors, Ali Asghar Ravasi, Mohamad Reza Kordi, Abbasali Gaeini, Mehrzad Hamidi, Rahman Souri, and Abolfazl Farahani stand out as the most prominent authors with the highest number of papers published in the studied journals during the 5-year period

purpose: Resarch grants are one of the new methods for managing research activities in Iranian universities. The purpose of this paper is to analyse and evaluate the rules and regulations for grants at two public universities (Allameh Tabtaba’i University and Shahed University), both located in Tehran. Methodlogy: The paper employs an analytical approach and a qualitative methodology to analyse and evaluate the rules and regulations for grants at the two universities. Findings: Both universities place importance on publishing papers in national peer-reviewed and Web of Science-indexed journals. While the universities exhibit similarities in the matter of grant budgeting, there are differences in certain details, especially in the evaluation of research activities and the rewards accruing from such activities. Conclusion: The two universities have adopted a European/North American system of grants but have adapted the grant structure, application, and use for Iranian needs. The current system for administering grants has faced many difficulties in Iranian universities, and it has not greatly enhanced research activity

Purpose:: Current study is a content analysis of papers in the field of egg enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids, to identify the trend, scientific prosperities and the main roles of this area during 2003-2013. Methodology: All published papers related to egg enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids by modifying hen's diet were extracted from the journals of Poultry Science, British Poultry Science and Journal of Applied Poultry Research and exposed to content analysis. Findings:: Among all extracted papers, only 26 of them were eligible. Data analysis showed the average annual of papers was 2.36 papers. The USA was the most productive country sharing 37.77% of papers. Surprisingly, Iran did not have any paper in this field. Flaxseed and fish oil were common dietary ingredients which were used in research. Research in the field of egg enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids was increased egg α-Linolenic acid, Eicosapentaenoic acid, Docosapentaenoic acid, Docosahexaenoic acid and total n-3 contents by 10.98%, 1.4%, 0.6%, 7.45% and 12.13% of yolk fatty acids. Research in the field of egg enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids led to supply omega-3 fatty acids required amount for health people and cardiovascular patients. Conclusion::As the egg enrichment with omega-3fatty acids is a good strategy to prevent cardiovascular diseases, it's necessary to make appropriate policies for providing researches in this field in Iran.

Purpose: The purpose of the present research is a comparative study of the impact of ResearchGate indicators on increasing citation counts of top Clinical Medicine articles of Iranian and Turkish Researchers in the Essential Science Indicators database of WOS. Methodology: This is an applied research and has been conducted using scientometric methods. Article title, the number of citation counts, publishing year and Author of "Hot papers" and "Highly Cited papers" (Top articles) of Iranian (60) and Turkish (202) researchers was extracted from ESI. Then the number of readership and citation counts of articles was extracted from ResearchGate. Data were analyzed by descriptive and analytical statistics test using Microsoft Excel and SPSS16. Findings: Spearman correlation test results showed that the number of citation counts in ESI have a significant positive correlation with the number of citation counts in Researchgate. However this statistical test also showed there isn’t significant positive correlation between the number of ResearchGate Readership counts and the ESI number of citation counts. Conclusion: Self-archiving in scientific social networking sites such as ResearchGate may have effect on visibility of the articles which may also affect their received citations
