Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the status of emotional intelligence and its effect on organizational citizenship behavior, considering the mediating role of quality of work life in public libraries of Mazandaran Province.
Methodology: This research is applied in terms of its objective and is a survey-analytical study in terms of data collection methods. The statistical population of the study consists of all librarians in the public libraries of Mazandaran Province, numbering 226 individuals in 1403 (Solar Hijri calendar). To determine the sample size, a proportional allocation method was used. The sample size was estimated at 142 individuals according to Cochran’s formula. Data collection tools included three questionnaires: the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, the Organizational Citizenship Behavior scale by Organ and Konovsky, and the Quality of Work Life scale by Elizeur and Shay. The validity and reliability of the questionnaires were calculated based on Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.872, 0.847, and 0.831, respectively. To analyze the data, Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, Pearson correlation, and linear regression were employed using SPSS 26 and PLS software.
Findings: The findings indicated that the variables of emotional intelligence (3.67), organizational citizenship behavior (3.48), and quality of work life (3.40) among librarians are at a desirable level. A significant positive relationship was found between organizational citizenship behavior, emotional intelligence, and quality of work life (significance level equal to 0.001).
Conclusion: The results showed that the higher the level of emotional intelligence among individuals in the organization, the more positive their attitude towards the organization, leading to a greater sense of dedication and commitment, increased citizenship behaviors, and a reduced tendency towards workplace misconduct. In this context, quality of work life was identified as the most influential variable in fostering organizational citizenship behavior.
