Purpose: The aim of the present research is to study the communication skills of public librarians, in theFars province and the effect of number of demographic variables.
Methodology: This research is an applied research with an analytical method. And Questionnaire by Queen Dom was selected as the research tool, which has 34 items and 5 subscales. The population of this study is all librarians from public libraries in Fars province are (350) person. Descriptive Statistics, F-test and t-test were used for data analysis.
Findings: The results research showed that communication skills in public librarians in the fars province is a higher than average. Therefore, on skills, the ability to receive and understand verbal and nonverbal messages, manage emotions, listening skills, insight into the process of communication and decisiveness are in a relatively good level. Also, other results showed that Work experience, gender, discipline and education had no effect on the communication skills in field knowledge and information science with non knowledge and information science.
conclusion:Considering that communication is important for librarians to Effective interaction with clients, the results could be useful in more attention to interpersonal communication and skills needed in this area, to achieve the goals of public libraries.
